Ateliers 2/3/4/ is acting as chief urban planner and ‘integrator’ for the urban renewal project (NPNRU) of the Cap Excellence Urban Community in Guadeloupe. The study area covers six neighbourhoods located in the municipalities of Pointe-à-Pitre and Les Abymes.
The simultaneous renewal of these different sectors, covering nearly 35 hectares, allows for a comprehensive approach to resilient urban planning in the face of climate challenges. This approach is based on a cross-cutting and multi-scale vision, from the territorial to the architectural level.
The flexible and adaptable master plan takes into account the risk of flooding and marine submersion. It thus enables the development of generous, planted public spaces (a source of biodiversity and resilience), promotes complementarity between neighbourhoods and ensures overall coherence:
- At the inter-neighbourhood level, by harmoniously linking the existing network with the planned network. The correct prioritisation and classification of roads will open up neighbourhoods and provide comfortable routes with the introduction of numerous soft mobility options.
– At the neighbourhood level, by clarifying the status of open spaces, where today all open spaces are open and public.
– At the building level, by promoting air cooling through natural ventilation and sun protection, as well as through the integration of Caribbean colours and local materials.
Our missions must result in an operational project within a timeframe compatible with the ANRU’s objectives.
