Ateliers 2/3/4/
Ateliers 2/3/4/ (Lead Landscape Architect) together with Tristan Brisard Architectes (Associate Architect) will undertake the refurbishment and extension of the Francis-Le-Basser Stadium in Laval.
The ambitious programme, commissioned by Laval Agglomération and Stade Lavallois Mayenne F.C., the owner of the facility, provides for:
- a 14,000-seat stadium meeting top-tier competition standards, featuring an innovative range of corporate boxes and hospitality suites
- an urban regeneration project redefining the city’s northern gateway
- an economically balanced and sustainable development scheme, enabling the creation of several hundred jobs and delivering 17,000 sqm of tertiary and commercial floor space, comprising 7,700 sqm of office space, 4,000 m² of educational facilities, a 1,000 sqm medical practice, 1,200 sqm of retail (including a convenience store), a bar-restaurant, a fitness centre, a micro-crèche, and the club’s museum shop.
Conceived as an ecological, legible and adaptable ensemble, the architectural and urban project integrates harmoniously into its context, between Avenue de Mayenne and Avenue Pierre de Coubertin.
Permeable public realm interventions reconnect the stadium with the surrounding neighbourhoods.
The architecture is both bold and refined, expressed through four principal volumes of controlled and elevated scale, combining timber-framed façades with a lightweight steel structure. The discontinuity of the upper ring emphasises the autonomy of the various programmes, unified by a shared plinth constructed in rammed earth concrete.
The public realm follows the site’s natural topography, creating a series of access terraces that enable circulation routes to respond to the differing temporal uses of the various user groups.
In addition to an enhanced spectator experience, the building offers a high degree of flexibility and reversibility. For example, the hospitality lounges used on match days can be transformed into meeting rooms, coworking spaces or event venues during the week.
Designed with an economy of means, the project will transform a mono-functional facility into a landmark building and a sustainable district, active 365 days a year.
