The Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis, Paris, realised by Métropole du Grand Paris, was inaugurated on the 4th of April by French President Emmanuel Macron, M. Patrick Ollier, President de la Métropole du Grand Paris, M. Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024, and Mmes Amélie OUDÉA-CASTÉRA, ministre des Sports et des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques, Nicole Belloubet, ministre de l’Education Nationale et de la Jeunesse, Anne Hidalgo, Presidente de la Solidéo and Mayor of Ville de Paris, Valérie Pécresse, Presidente of Région Ile de France, and MM. The Aquatics Centre is inspired by nature and designed with heritage at heart:
– A sports arena where dreams meet achievements: separated by movable walls, the multi-purpose pools will host water polo, diving and artistic swimming events, and swimming competitions during the heritage phase;
– A meeting place for all generations around sport;
– An ecological design that combines structural, aesthetic and spatial qualities;
– A demonstration of the synergy between technical and environmental innovation and architecture;
– A new urbanity at the heart of the Greater Paris Metropolitan Region.
The project is truly the result of teamwork, thanks to close and inspiring collaboration with Metropole du GrandParis and its Chairman, Patrick Ollier, and all our partners, led by Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France.
Our thanks go to all the enthusiastic experts involved and to the teams of VenhoevenCS architecture+urbanism and Ateliers 2/3/4/, who made it possible to deliver a facility that lives up to our ambitions, in particular to Cécilia Gross and Laure Meriaud, Ton Venhoeven, Arjen Zaal, Jos-Willem van Oorschot, Yves de Pommereau, Eraldo Brandimarte, Tjeerd Hellinga, Maria Boletou, Arjan Pot, Louis van Wamel and many more!
