The mission of studies, expertise and advice concerns a territory of 500ha, shared between the municipalities of Vaux-en-Velin and Villeurbanne. The Carré de Soie area, by its size and the complexity of the interweaving of project scales, gives us the opportunity to take hold of what is already there, to go back and forth in time, to learn from the past, to analyse the present in order to better anticipate the future, which we know to be moving and unpredictable. Integrating the unpredictable means showing flexibility and adaptation. Attention and reflection navigate on all scales, and are mutually enriching.

The objectives are as follows:

  • To make the site’s heritage and history the foundation and the “common good”
    – To maintain the requirements in terms of ecology and sustainable development, to go further and think of new uses and virtues of the “green city
    – Thinking and planning public spaces to the right extent, a territory of neighbourhoods – neighbourhoods that are a territory
    – Promote a programme with high potential in terms of social innovation
    – Develop and enhance the landscape chain, enhance a system of varied landscape spaces as markers of neighbourhood identity
    – Extend the public transport offer to facilitate intermodality and eco-mobility
    – Reintegrate the southern part of the Carré de Soie into the overall project
    – Continue to reflect on the tools and rules to be put in place for a reasoned density and a qualitative and frugal architecture in the inhabited landscape
    – Keep the integration of the former and future inhabitants in the general reflection, as they are real actors in daily life, contributing to the continuation of a common history and writing tomorrow’s history together.
