Ateliers 2/3/4/ is conducting a feasibility study on the creation of a coastal path in Fort-de-France Bay, Martinique
| Martinique – Diagnosis – Coastal path – 50 km |
Ateliers 2/3/4/ is actively involved in major landscape and coastal protection issues, particularly in overseas territories that are particularly exposed to climate risk.
Since March 2025, Ateliers 2/3/4/, Chief Landscape Architect, and Théo Lévy, Urban Planner, have been conducting a feasibility study for the creation of a safe and accessible coastal footpath between Fond Bernier and Cap Salomon, along the Grande Baie de Fort-de-France.
This project is being led by the CACEM (Communauté d’Agglomération du Centre de la Martinique) as part of the Grande Baie Contract.
Its aim is to define the conditions for implementing this route, which is intended to open up the coastline to residents and enable the development of an attractive tourist offering for the area, covering:
– 50 km of coastline between the coastline and the national road;
– 7 municipalities: Schœlcher, Fort-de-France, Le Lamentin, Ducos, Rivière-Salée, Les Trois-Îlets and Les Anses d’Arlet.
This study aims to propose routes connecting some of the ecological and remarkable heritage sites identified in the 2023 report, while taking into account existing trails, ongoing projects and environmental issues.
As part of the diagnostic phase, the team travelled to Martinique to conduct a field analysis, identify possible routes, observe access conditions and better understand the specific characteristics of the territory. This field mission fuelled discussions at the technical committee (COTECH) meeting on 15 May, where the initial findings were shared with partners, enabling the guidelines for the rest of the project to be defined.
This project follows on from studies carried out by Ateliers 2/3/4/ on the coastal path in French Guiana, the Schœlcher coastline in Martinique and the development and restoration of the coastal path between Gros Morne and Petit Bas Vent in Deshaie, Guadeloupe.
