More than a development, this is an urban project whose site plan was developed jointly with two other architectural practices. The complex is composed of an office block (Ateliers 2/3/4/), a student residence (Jacques Moussafir) and an hotel (Manual Gautrand).
It is located on a very long (270 meters), relatively narrow site. Moreover, it is distinguished by two additional constraints: topographic (a 10-metre drop in level) and a large bend in the ringroad between the Porte de Pantin and Porte des Lilas.
To confer a strong identity to this complex whilst maintaining some form of diversity, the following objectives were set:
– Compose a deliberately fragmented complex, alternating aligned sequences with landscaped setbacks to give transparency to the depth of the project.
– Clearly signal the steep slope of the site by a tiered silhouette of successive volumes.
– Take advantage of its presence alongside the ring road to incorporate reference points as compared to projects designed like inpenertratable walls.
– Towards Paris, take into consideration the tramway, in particular by grouping the car park entrances to unhinder public transport movement.
